Wednesday gave an insightful view into what the ideal final project would look like. It was also interesting to see such variety among the seven cabinets. One of my favorites was Slam City Oracles. The premise was fairly simply – jump to create chaos. Given the simplicity of the game mechanics, I appreciated the gigantic button each player had for jumping; it was highly satisfying. I was also able to speak to Jane Friedhoff, the developer, who told me she wanted to create a game based on that feeling you get going up and down over and over on a roller coaster. I also liked the juxtaposition of a world filled with cuteness and two girls wreaking havoc on it. The two main characters had a total girl-power vibe that I loved. The game only took a few minutes to play but had that essential arcade game x-factor that made you want to play over and over. However, most of the goals seemed to be achieved at random, and I do wish it was a little clearer how to obtain certain achievements.
